the MLPC!
We encourage all
those who support the work of the MLPC to also support it financially.
At this time, all the money goes to the work of breaking the monopoly of
the elites over the media by strengthening the Party publications, TML Daily and Workers' Forum and
further strengthening the resources we can make available,
including on the website. Breaking the grip of the monopolies over the media
and, more importantly, over the way one thinks, requires workers, youth and
students, women and others taking up the work to read, sell, obtain subscriptions
and raise funds to sustain the Party publications. Your support for this
important work is very much appreciated.

Laws
Governing
Contributions
The Canada
Elections Act specifies that only Canadian citizens and permament
residents can make contributions to a registered political party. As of
January 1, 2007 the annual limit that an individual can make to a
registered political party is $1,200. The membership fee is not
included in this limit.
The law
stipulates that the name and address of individuals contributing more
than $200 to a registered party must be reported to Elections Canada by
the recipient and this information becomes a matter of public record.
Contribution of cash more than $20.00 cannot be accepted by a
registered political party. Any donation greater than $20.00 must be
made either through a money order or a cheque.
Monetary contributions to registered political parties
entitle the contributor to an income tax credit as follows: 75
percent of the first $400 for a maximum of 300$, 50 percent of the next
$350 for a maximum of 475$ and 33-1/3 percent of an amount over
$750 till 1200$ for a maximum tax credit of $624.99.
Cash
contributions of $20.00 or less and cheques or money order for more
than $20.00 can be given directly to an authorized representative of
MLPC or delivered by mail to:
MLPC
National Office:
P.O. Box

Elections
Canada
Website:
Bill C-2, the Federal Accountability Act, received royal assent on
December 12, 2006. It makes
changes to a number of other acts, among them the Canada Elections Act.
Who can
donate
As of January 1, 2007, only citizens and permanent residents of Canada
can make political
donations to registered parties, registered electoral district
associations, candidates, nomination
contestants and leadership contestants.
Corporations, trade unions and unincorporated associations may no
longer make political
donations to candidates, registered electoral district associations or
nomination contestants of
registered parties. The existing prohibition on donations from these
organizations to registered
parties and leadership contestants of registered parties remains.
However, an employer can
give an employee who wishes to be a nomination contestant or a
candidate a paid leave of
absence during an election period, and that leave will not be
considered a contribution.
Limits
on donations
Contribution limits from individuals are now:
no more than $1,100 in any calendar year to each registered political
party
no more than $1,100 in total in any calendar year to the various
entities of each registered
political party (registered associations, nomination contestants and
candidates)
no more than $1,100 to each independent candidate for a particular
election
no more than $1,100 in total to the leadership contestants in a
particular leadership contest |
